Filipino

I have always been a fan of Filipino music. I am glad OPM (Original Pilipino Music) is still alive and many would actually say ‘vibrant.’ Unlike the Japanese and Korean, the Philippine music scene is dominated by bands. There are many good bands in different genres in the Philippines. Some of my favorites are Slapshock, Sandwhich, Eraserheads and Rivermaya. Pop music is also present in the Philippines, although not as much as what you would see in Korea and Japan. Pop ballads are more popular than pop/dance. American music greatly influences much of the Filipinos mainly due to the fact that the country had been a Commonwealth of the United States and it is more evident in the use of English language in Filipino music.

So many times we’ve spent in
Too many lives we’ve been in
    But you’re doing it again

To me the nights have fallen
The lights are on and off again
Is there a chance that you won’t die
    Won’t die, with me tonight?

Like a shooting star to where you are
Are we too late am I too soon?
You’ll make it through you’ve gone too far
Will you ever be my star?

    I’m holding on to nothing
    No reason worth for living
    I’m calling out to you

If it’s the only way to keep you
Then I dont want to break you
    I’m losing grip again

With you the nights have fallen
The lights are on and off again
Is there a chance that you wont die
    Won’t die, with me tonight?

Like a shooting star to where you are
Are we too late am I too soon
You’ll make it through you’ve gone too far
Will you ever be my star?

You’re a shooting star to where you are
Are we too late am I too soon
You’ll make it through you’ve gone too far
Will you ever be my star?
Will you ever be my star?

    You’re walking away
I’ll be seeing you through a satellite

    If you go
    Then I’m walking away

I think for filipino bands to be recognised more in their own country, i think they have to consider touring outside the philippines and comeback. Ex-member of Manila punk band “switchblade sadie”, jimmy-lee, moved to London and started a band called “trailer trash tracys” and is doing well with a record deal with Domino Records,London,UK. Eraserheads are getting some support and fanbase in the U.S, but pretty small.
